    Kernio AI ("we", "our", or "us") operates the web application at kernioai.com, the Kernio browser extension for Chrome, and the Kernio mobile app for iOS and Android (collectively, "the Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use any part of the Service.

    2. Information We Collect

    2.1 Information You Provide

    • Account information: Name, email address, and password when you create an account.
    • Content: Text, documents, and other materials you upload or create using our platform, including books, posts, work logs, and source materials.
    • Payment information: Billing details are processed by our payment provider, Lemon Squeezy. We do not store your credit card numbers directly.
    • Communications: Information you provide when contacting us for support.

    2.2 Information Collected Automatically

    • Usage data: Pages viewed, features used, AI credit consumption, and interaction patterns.
    • Device information: Browser type, operating system, and device identifiers.
    • IP address: Used for regional pricing detection and security purposes.

    2.3 Platform-Specific Collection

    Each Kernio platform collects different data depending on its capabilities. This section details what is unique to each.

    Web Application (kernioai.com)

    • Analytics: We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) for traffic and attribution analytics, and Mixpanel for product usage analytics. Data collected includes page views, click interactions, feature usage, conversion events, and session recordings. All text inputs are masked in session recordings. IP addresses are anonymized. Analytics data is used to improve the product, not for advertising. You can opt out via your browser's Do Not Track setting.
    • Cookies: Essential cookies for authentication and session management. A regional pricing cookie to remember your detected pricing tier. No third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

    Browser Extension (Chrome)

    • Web selections: When you explicitly save a text selection (via the right-click context menu or the floating save icon), the selected text, page URL, and page title are sent to your Kernio account.
    • Voice recordings: When you start a voice recording, audio is captured via the microphone (requires your permission). Recordings are processed for transcription and stored as notes in your account.
    • Local storage: Authentication tokens, extension preferences (voice language, selection icon toggle), and an offline draft queue are stored in local extension storage.
    • No analytics or tracking: The browser extension does not collect any usage analytics, browsing history, or background data. No data is read passively or on pages you have not interacted with.

    Mobile App (iOS & Android)

    • Voice recordings: When you start a voice recording, audio is captured via the microphone (requires your permission). Recordings are processed for transcription and stored as notes in your account.
    • Push notifications: If you enable push notifications, we store a device token to send scheduled post reminders. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
    • Offline drafts: Notes created without internet are stored on-device and synced when connectivity returns.
    • Not collected: The mobile app does not access your location, contacts, photo library, or any other device data beyond what is listed above.

    3. How We Use Your Information

    • Provide, maintain, and improve our services.
    • Process your content through AI models to generate books, posts, and other outputs as requested by you.
    • Process payments and manage subscriptions.
    • Send transactional emails (account verification, billing receipts, trial reminders).
    • Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security threats.
    • Comply with legal obligations.

    4. AI Processing

    4.1 Content Generation

    When you use our AI features, your content is sent to third-party AI providers (such as OpenAI and Anthropic) for processing. We send only the minimum context necessary for each operation. These providers process your data according to their own privacy policies and data processing agreements. We do not use your content to train AI models.

    4.2 Audio Transcription

    When you explicitly initiate a voice recording (in the mobile app or browser extension), the audio recording is sent to Deepgram, a third-party speech-to-text provider, for transcription. The following applies:

    • Audio is sent to Deepgram only when you explicitly start a recording — never passively or in the background.
    • Deepgram processes the audio solely to generate a text transcript, which is returned to our service and stored as a note in your account.
    • Audio recordings are not stored by Deepgram after processing is complete.
    • Audio recordings are not used by Deepgram to train AI models.

    5. Data Sharing

    We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

    • Service providers: Supabase (hosting & database), Lemon Squeezy (payments), Resend (transactional emails), OpenAI/Anthropic (AI content generation), Deepgram (audio transcription), Google Analytics and Mixpanel (web app usage analytics).
    • Legal requirements: When required by law, regulation, or legal process.

    All user-created data from the browser extension and mobile app flows through the same Supabase infrastructure as the web application. No platform-specific data is shared with additional third parties beyond those listed above.

    6. Data Storage & Security

    Your data is stored on Supabase infrastructure. We use industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS), row-level security policies, and secure authentication. Payment data is handled entirely by Lemon Squeezy and is never stored on our servers.

    7. Data Retention

    We retain your account data and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., billing records). Top-up credits expire 6 months after purchase.

    8. Your Rights

    Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

    • Access the personal data we hold about you.
    • Request correction or deletion of your data.
    • Export your content.
    • Withdraw consent for optional data processing.
    • Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.

    9. Cookies

    The web application at kernioai.com uses essential cookies for authentication and session management, and a regional pricing cookie to remember your detected pricing tier. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies. The browser extension and mobile app do not use cookies.

    Our service is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.
